Xanthan gum is perfect for making gels. It can easily be added to the aqueous phase either hot or cold. For best results, warm the aqueous phase slightly, then gradually add the xanthan gum in a shower, while whisking to avoid lumps.
- For a fluid gel: use less than 1% xanthan gum.
- For a thick gel: increase the quantity up to 2%.
The "transparent" version of xanthan gum is very popular, as it does not alter the colour of your preparations, guaranteeing a truly transparent gel.
Example of a soothing gel:
You can easily create a soothing eye contour gel using cornflower hydrosol. In this aqueous gel, you can add up to 1% essential oil, such as pistachio mastic, to treat puffy eyelids.
