The fruit of this pepper is a small green berry, black when ripe and with a sweet pulp. Its flavour is reminiscent of four spices combined: cloves, nutmeg, pepper and cinnamon. It was traditionally used in Central America to flavour chocolate, and is still used today in cooking. Its essential oil has spicy notes and is exceptionally light.
