Angelica

Angelica

A large, robust herbaceous plant, recognisable by its yellow-green globular umbellate inflorescences. A generous plant, as its roots, stems, leaves and fruits are usable. First cultivated in Scandinavia, it later occupied a special place in the monastic gardens of Central Europe. The essential oil extracted from its root has a green, lemony and lively aroma.

This large and beautiful umbelliferous plant from northern Europe appreciates discreet light and moist soil. The root of the "angel herb" was considered in past centuries to be an absolute panacea, similar to that other root of Asian origin: ginseng. Its essential oil consists of monoterpenes, esters and coumarins.

Most umbellifers produce EO with digestive "tropism" (exert their action at this level). Angelica is thus eupeptic (facilitates digestion) and carminative. It combats abdominal spasms. Anticoagulant, emmenagogue, it facilitates blood flow. It is anxiolytic and combats nervous fatigue. At the price of a more regular use or higher doses, it becomes more frankly sedative.

A balsamic, persistent, slightly peppery and musky aroma. The deep tone characteristic of a root, with original nuances of earth and water. This EO is used to combat nervous weakness, fear, lack of perseverance, difficulty in making choices... It harmonises and amplifies the breath, which makes it a possible partner for yoga and meditation sessions.
