This plant has the same main constituent as basil: methylchavicol ether. This explains a great familiarity of aroma and very similar properties, although more specific to tarragon.

Tarragon essential oil acts specifically against neuromuscular spasms. It is used specifically to stop hiccups instantly. Tarragon essential oil will alleviate the most unpleasant manifestations of allergy. Alone or in synergy, diluted in a vegetable oil for local external use, it softens the muscles before exercise and soothes muscle cramps.

One might think that tarragon and basil, sharing the same active ingredient in large quantities, would be similar. This is only partially true: internal synergies bring their own nuances. While basil brings lightness of spirit and detachment, tarragon is clearly closer to the earth. Its sole intention is to free us - very effectively - from the clutches that paralyse our vitality.
