Let's get to know the essential oils for a healthy stomach and the hydrolats known for their draining and detoxifying action.

Preamble

All of the following advice is not a substitute for medical advice. Always consult your doctor first. This advice is given for healthy adults. Always consult the precautions for use of essential oils before using them. In general, essential oils are not suitable for pregnant and breastfeeding women and children under the age of 6.

1. Essential oils to aid digestion

Lemon essential oil

Digestive tonic, depurative, stomachic, lemon essential oil helps to gently drain the liver and relieve nausea and difficult digestion.

Use: 2 drops on a neutral tablet, in a little plant oil or in a little honey, maximum 3 times a day, for 3 days

For children aged 3 and over: 1 drop on an unrefined sugar cube in case of digestive disorders

Cardamom essential oil

Antispasmodic on the digestive level, it is useful for soothing stomach spasms linked to poor digestion. Carminative, it helps to stimulate and regulate the intestinal function in case of dyspepsia of nervous origin.

Use: 1 drop after meals if necessary.

Peppermint essential oil

Digestive stimulant, it is an essential oil well known in case of difficult digestion, nausea or bad breath linked to digestion. Stomachic, anti-vomiting, it promotes good digestion.

Use: 1 drop twice a day in a little vegetal oil, after meals. Maximum 10 days. Essential oil strictly forbidden during pregnancy, breastfeeding and for children under 12 years old, epileptic subjects, fragile or hypertensive people.

2. Peppermint hydrosol to reduce the swelling of the stomach

After a large meal, eaten too quickly or in an atmosphere of stress, the stomach can be swollen, sometimes painful. Often, the food has not been chewed enough, it has not been impregnated enough with salivary enzymes. This leads to poor digestion with fermentation resulting in an overproduction of gas, bloating and flatulence.

Peppermint hydrosol

Digestive, anti-bacterial, anti-fermentation, André Bitsas wrote of this hydrosol that it "treats colic, gastro-oesophageal reflux, Crohn's disease, irritable bowel syndrome".

Use: in case of swollen belly, heaviness, difficulties to digest, pour 1 teaspoon in a cup of water.

For a cure, dilute 2 to 3 tablespoons in a litre of water and drink throughout the day for 21 days.

3. Essential oils to soothe stomach pains

You are perhaps suffering from stomach cramps, painful spasms, burning? The first thing to do is obviously to consult your doctor to make a diagnosis and to benefit from the most suitable treatment. In addition, massages with essential oils with antispasmodic properties can relieve these unpleasant sensations.

Exotic basil essential oil

Powerful anti-spasmodic, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, it helps to relieve stomach pain, aerophagia and acts as a digestive tonic.

Use: 1 drop in a teaspoon of apricot vegetal oil, massaged into the stomach to soothe cramps and promote digestion

OR 1 drop in a little honey or vegetal oil, to be taken internally three times a day after meals, for a maximum of 10 days.

Roman chamomile essential oil

Antispasmodic, relaxing, anti-inflammatory, it also acts on the emotional sphere and calms the nervous system. We like it to "untie" stomach knots...

Use: diluted in a vegetable oil, gently massage into the stomach after meals or as soon as pain is felt. The easiest way is to use it with our Roman chamomile roll-on.

4. Hydrosols to support the liver and detoxify

Chronic fatigue, a cloudy complexion, migraines, nausea... are all signals that can alert us to a tired or overloaded liver. The end of winter, at the moment of transition to spring, is an ideal time to start a gentle detox, interesting for eliminating toxins and regaining lightness, with draining hydrosols that support this process.

Rosemary verbenone hydrosol

Used internally, this hydrosol with tonic notes of rosemary cleanses and detoxifies the liver.

Use: 2 tablespoons in 1 litre of water, to be drunk throughout the day, for 21 days

OR 1 teaspoon in a cup of warm water, as soon as the need arises

Wild carrot hydrosol

Taken internally, wild carrot hydrosol supports the liver, gallbladder and kidneys. As a treatment, it will help to drain and regenerate the liver.

Use: 2 tablespoons in 1 litre of water, to be drunk throughout the day for 21 days. You can also mix 1 tablespoon of carrot hydrosol with 1 tablespoon of rosemary hydrosol, for an effective detoxifying synergy.
