Vetiver

A true natural insecticide, this plant from subtropical regions grows in tall clumps of grass with long, tapering leaves. Its roots, which help to combat soil erosion, concentrate its precious aromatic molecules. Its essential oil is an essential base note in the development of the greatest perfumes. Amber in colour, it is characterised by woody, smoky and warm fragrances.

This tropical grass is found in the West Indies, the Indian Ocean islands and the Far East. The thick essential oil extracted from its roots is composed of sesquiterpenols, sesquiterpenes, ketones, acids, etc. Its colour is sometimes amber, sometimes dark brown.

Vetiver essential oil stimulates in case of weakened immunity. It is an arterial, venous and lymphatic tonic. It is also an endocrine tonic, an emmenagogue and a soother of premenstrual tensions. It is used to combat various skin problems: eczema, dry skin, irritated skin, ageing skin. It repels many insects, especially moths.

The aroma is intensely earthy, musky, smoky and strongly reminiscent of tropical roots and humus. In India and Sri Lanka, it is known as the "oil of tranquility". Generally speaking, it is an anti-stress essential oil, ideal for promoting grounding, i.e. being present to oneself and one's environment, "here and now".
