A tree from the forests of Brazil and Guyana, its fragrant, slow-growing pink and reddish wood is precious. The Amazonian Indians have used it for thousands of years. This magnificent species is now protected and its essential oil is produced from its leafy branches. Highly sought after in perfumery, it delights with its delicate, tonic and fresh pink fragrance.

The following summary is given for information purposes: it is a synthesis of the properties described in recognised aromatherapy books and/or in accordance with ancestral and popular traditions. The properties* presented are taken from the book ‘Aromathérapie Corps et Ame’ by André Bitsas, published by Amyris. It is in no way a medical information or a list of indications.

After a long ban on marketing, rosewood is coming back to us in limited batches. The traditional distillation of wood (from the trunk) contributed to the accelerated disappearance of the species. The released batches therefore concern another producing organ: the branches and their leaves, a choice that in no way compromises the survival of the tree, contrary to the former practice. The overall biochemistry is preserved, with the linalool in the majority still leaving its distinctive olfactory mark.

Due to its high percentage of linalool, rosewood essential oil is antibacterial. It can be used to treat respiratory problems in babies and young children. In association, it fights genito-urinary infections. It is a good muscle tonic. It is an excellent skin tonic, able to prevent the development of wrinkles and to firm the skin. It is also used to soothe burns, eczema and urinary tract infections.

The characteristic smell of linalool, with hints of rose, is invigorating and fresh. A lifelong remedy against gloom and grey skies. On the outside but also on the inside. Recent studies confirm the eminently adaptogenic nature of linalool. In other words, a remarkable anti-stress weapon.
