Hoe kan ik hydrosols dagelijks gebruiken?

Much gentler than essential oils, hydrosols are perfect for dealing with everyday ailments.

You may use rose hydrosol for your skin or cornflower hydrosol as a compress to soothe tired eyes after a long day in front of the screens. But did you know that you can also drink hydrosols?

Here are Bioflore's secrets for taking hydrosols internally in complete safety!

An article by Amandine Devillard, aromatherapist.

Precautions: These well-being tips are not a substitute for advice from your healthcare professional. Always seek the advice of your doctor or pharmacist in the case of a proven and/or chronic pathology. For children aged 3 and over, use teaspoons instead of tablespoons and always refer to aromatherapy reference books. If you are pregnant, always ask your doctor for advice.

What is the correct dosage for drinking hydrosols safely?

Who can drink hydrosols?

While applying hydrosols to the skin is now an integral part of any cosmetic routine, it is less well known that they can be taken in drinking water or any other liquid. Easy to use, with no contraindications as complex as with essential oils, most hydrosols can be used by everyone, including:

  • pregnant women;
  • children and infants (for certain hydrosols);
  • people suffering from polymedication or frailty;
  • people who are hypersensitive to the olfactory power of EOs.

The right dosage for hydrosols

In terms of dosage, we recommend adding 2 tablespoons of one or more hydrosols to a litre of water for an adult. Another technique: you can divide the 2 tablespoons into 4 teaspoons over the course of the day, especially if you can't take a litre flask with you. This can also be useful if you need to take several hydrosols throughout the day without necessarily mixing them.

Want to dilute the hydrosol with your favourite herbal tea? No problem, as long as you allow it to cool so as not to alter the molecules that make up the hydrosol.

Can all hydrosols be added to water?

It's interesting to know that all hydrosols, apart from witch hazel hydrosol, can be ingested, while respecting the specific characteristics of each. As far as quality is concerned, it's important to choose organic grade 1 hydrosols wherever possible for maximum effectiveness. Beware of certain names for 'hydrosols', which contain preservatives and are not suitable for ingestion, but only for use on the skin.

How long can I take hydrosols internally?

If the problem to be solved only lasts a few days, taking the hydrosols internally stops as soon as the person's condition improves. If, on the other hand, the aim of taking the hydrosols internally is to balance the condition of the skin or a chronic disorder, it is possible to take the hydrosols in the form of a course of treatment to be ingested. The dosage is the same as that recommended above over three weeks. A therapeutic break of one week separates two contiguous courses of treatment.

The formulas below are for an adult in good health.

Drink hydrosols to improve digestion and promote drainage

Heavy digestion, intestinal problems, congestion caused by toxins accumulated over time, gas and bloating, stress that has repercussions on the digestive system... Our stomachs are subject to numerous disorders that affect our overall well-being. Hydrosols can be invaluable allies in restoring homeostasis. Here's a trio to help you regain a healthy tummy.

Peppermint Hydrosol

Suggested use: for digestive problems, take 1 teaspoon in a glass of water, no more than 4 to 6 times a day.

For a course of treatment, dilute 2 tablespoons in a litre of water and drink throughout the day for three weeks.

Rosemary Verbenone Hydrosol

Looking for a liver detox specialist? You can count on Rosemary verbenone hydrosol for in-depth liver cleansing. Be careful not to take it after 4pm, as its tonicity may cause insomnia.
